FAQ
Add your materials (yarn plus stuffing, eyes, buttons and so on), your time at an hourly rate, packaging, and a little overhead for tools and selling costs. That's your true cost. Add a profit margin on top and you have a price that pays you for every hour, not just the yarn.
It's quick, but it ignores time — and crochet is mostly time. A hat and a blanket can use similar amounts of yarn but take wildly different hours. The calculator shows what the 3× rule pays you per hour for your project, which is often far below minimum wage for larger pieces.
Pick a rate you'd genuinely accept for the work — many makers start near their local minimum wage and raise it as they get faster and more in demand. If the resulting price feels too high for your market, that's useful information: it may mean choosing faster projects rather than working for less.
Enter the price you're thinking of charging in the optional field to see what it actually pays per hour. Then look at the biggest cost bars: faster patterns, bulk yarn buying, or offering smaller items alongside large commissions usually help more than cutting your hourly rate.
Etsy takes fees on every sale, so the same price leaves you less. The "If you sell it on Etsy" panel shows the fees and your profit after them for the recommended price. Craft fairs have their own costs — booth fees belong in overhead.
