How we calculated this
- Batch ingredients: oils $7.50 + lye $1.43 + fragrance $4.00 + additives $2.00 = $14.93, or $1.24 per bar across 12 bars.
- Your 1.5 h per batch at $15.00/hr adds $1.88 per bar; packaging adds $0.50.
- With 10% overhead, each bar costs $3.98. Wholesale at 2× cost = $7.96; retail at 2× wholesale = $15.92.

How this works
Works out the cost per bar from your recipe (oils, lye, additives), packaging, your time and overhead, then wholesale and retail prices from your multipliers.

FAQ
Cost the whole batch — oils and butters by weight, lye, fragrance or essential oils, and additives — then divide by how many bars you cut. Add packaging per bar, your time for the batch split across the bars, and a little overhead. The calculator shows both the batch ingredient costs and the full cost per bar.
From the lye calculator you used to formulate the recipe. This tool doesn't formulate recipes or calculate lye — it prices them. Enter the weights exactly as your recipe lists them.
A common approach is wholesale at about 2× your cost per bar and retail at about 2× wholesale, leaving room for the shops that stock you. The multipliers are editable, so adjust them to what your market supports and keep an eye on the profit per bar.
Cold process soap typically needs weeks to cure before it can be sold, which ties up space and cash in inventory. It isn't a direct cost per bar, but it's a good reason not to price at the bare minimum — and to include storage and racks in your overhead percentage.
The "If you sell it on Etsy" panel applies Etsy's US listing, transaction and payment processing fees to your retail price and shows the profit left. Use the full Etsy fee calculator to include shipping, sales tax and Offsite Ads.
