How Much Should You Spend on Facebook Ads? A Budget You Can Defend

Meta lets you start with a small budget, which makes it tempting to pick a round number and see what happens. The problem is that a budget chosen that way can't tell you whether the ads are working. A budget built from the results you need, and what each one costs, can.

How much should you spend on Facebook ads?

Work it out from results: the leads or sales you want × what one costs you. In 2026, Facebook leads campaigns average $27.39 per lead and $1.80 per click across industries, so 30 leads a month needs about $820 a month, or $27 a day. If you use a cost per result goal, Meta recommends a daily budget of at least five times that goal.

The benchmark figures come from LocaliQ's 2026 Facebook advertising benchmarks, checked on September 25, 2026. The five-times guidance is from Meta's help page on best practices for minimum budgets.

How much do Facebook ads cost in 2026?

LocaliQ's 2026 benchmarks split Facebook campaigns by objective:

Campaign objective Avg. cost per click Avg. click-through rate Avg. conversion rate Avg. cost per lead
Traffic $0.60 1.93% — —
Leads $1.80 2.70% 8.54% $27.39

Traffic campaigns buy cheaper clicks, but a click isn't a customer. Leads campaigns cost three times as much per click and bring enquiries, which is usually what a service business actually pays for.

Cost per lead varies a lot by industry:

Industry (leads campaigns) Avg. cost per click Avg. conversion rate Avg. cost per lead
Career & Employment $0.73 5.38% $12.30
Real Estate $1.27 9.95% $13.74
Arts & Entertainment $0.88 15.31% $14.59
Sports & Recreation $1.08 6.75% $15.49
Education & Instruction $1.72 15.87% $26.31
Health & Fitness $1.84 7.98% $27.11
Physicians & Surgeons $1.68 6.41% $32.14
Automotive: For Sale $2.01 4.15% $35.52
Industrial & Commercial $1.55 4.50% $35.87
Personal Services $1.62 6.61% $38.09
Furniture $2.18 5.66% $39.25
Home & Home Improvement $2.18 5.32% $42.95
Beauty & Personal Care $2.97 5.63% $50.91
Dentists & Dental Services $5.70 6.07% $61.56
All industries $1.80 8.54% $27.39

Each column is averaged on its own, so an industry's cost per click divided by its conversion rate won't exactly match its cost per lead. Use these to set expectations, then switch to your own numbers from Ads Manager.

How do you set a Facebook ads budget from a goal?

Three steps:

  1. Pick the result you're paying for. A lead (form or message) or a purchase. Not clicks, not reach.
  2. Estimate what one costs. Your own cost per result if you've run ads before; otherwise your industry's benchmark above.
  3. Multiply. Monthly budget = results you want × cost per result. Daily budget = monthly ÷ 30.4.
Goal Cost per lead Monthly budget Daily budget
30 leads, all-industry average $27.39 $822 $27.03
20 leads, Real Estate $13.74 $275 $9.04
20 leads, Home & Home Improvement $42.95 $859 $28.26
20 leads, Dentists & Dental Services $61.56 $1,231 $40.50

Our Facebook ads budget calculator does this from either your cost per click or your CPM (cost per 1,000 impressions), and adds impressions, clicks, revenue and ROAS.

What is Meta's five-times budget guidance?

If you set a cost per result goal on an ad set (you tell Meta roughly what you want to pay per result), Meta recommends a daily budget of at least five times that goal. Its own example: a $5 goal needs at least $25 a day. The idea is that the budget has to be big enough to buy several results a day, or the delivery system has little to work with.

At the 2026 averages, that adds up quickly:

Cost per result goal Minimum daily budget (5×) About per month
$13.74 (Real Estate average) $68.70 $2,088
$27.39 (all-industry average) $136.95 $4,163
$42.95 (Home & Home Improvement average) $214.75 $6,528
$61.56 (Dentists average) $307.80 $9,357

This guidance applies when you use a cost per result goal. If your goal-based budget is far below these figures, you have two honest options: run without a cost per result goal and let the budget do the limiting, or concentrate the budget on fewer ad sets so each one gets enough to work with.

How much do Facebook ads cost per day?

Whatever daily budget you set. Meta treats it as a target rather than an exact cap, so it may spend more on some days and less on others. For planning, take your monthly budget and divide by 30.4.

A few reference points at the 2026 leads averages:

  • $10 a day (about $304 a month): around 11 leads a month at $27.39 each.
  • $25 a day (about $760 a month): around 28 leads.
  • $50 a day (about $1,520 a month): around 55 leads.

Treat those as starting estimates. Your first two or three weeks of real data are worth more than any benchmark.

Is the budget paying for itself?

A lead is only cheap if it's worth more than it costs. Work out what one is worth:

Value of a lead = revenue per customer × profit margin × share of leads that become customers

At $600 per customer, a 50% margin and one sale per ten leads, a lead is worth $600 × 50% × 10% = $30. At the all-industry average of $27.39 per lead, that just about pays. For online stores selling directly from ads, compare your ROAS with your break-even ROAS instead. Our guide to a good ROAS shows how to work it out.

If you're weighing Facebook against search ads, the Google Ads cost guide has the same 2026 figures for Google: $5.42 per click and $66.69 per lead on average. Facebook leads usually cost less; compare how many of them become customers before deciding which is cheaper. Testing video ads instead? FAQ

Take the results you want each month, multiply by what one costs, and divide by 30.4. For 30 leads at the 2026 average of $27.39, that's about $27 a day. If you set a cost per result goal, Meta recommends at least five times that goal per day.
$27.39 for leads campaigns across industries, according to LocaliQ's 2026 benchmarks. It ranges from $12.30 for Career & Employment to $61.56 for Dentists & Dental Services.
$0.60 for traffic campaigns and $1.80 for leads campaigns across industries in LocaliQ's 2026 benchmarks.
It can be for a test, but at the 2026 average of $27.39 per lead it buys around 11 leads a month, which is a small sample to judge by. If you use a cost per result goal, Meta's guidance means $10 a day only suits a goal of $2 or less.
Use whichever your Ads Manager reports most reliably. With cost per click you only need your CPC and conversion rate. With CPM you also need your click-through rate to turn impressions into clicks.

Your budget should come from your own cost per result and your own goal. Put them in the calculator to see the daily and monthly budget, the leads or sales it should bring, and whether the ROAS clears your margin.
