Google Ads doesn't have a price list. You set a budget, bid on clicks in an auction, and pay each time someone clicks your ad. That makes "how much does it cost?" two questions: what you'll be billed, and what you'll get for it. This guide answers both with 2026 data.
How much does Google Ads cost per month?
Google Ads costs what you set as your budget. You choose an average daily budget, and Google won't bill more than 30.4 times that amount in a month. A $50-a-day campaign costs at most $1,520 a month. In 2026, search ads average $5.42 per click and $66.69 per lead across industries, so $1,500 a month buys roughly 277 clicks and 23 leads at average rates.
The billing rules come from Google's help page About average daily budgets. The cost figures come from LocaliQ's 2026 search advertising benchmarks. Both were checked on September 25, 2026.
How does Google bill your daily budget?
Your budget is an average, not a hard daily cap. Google's help page says it can spend up to twice your average daily budget on a busy day, then spend less on quieter days. Over a month, it won't charge more than 30.4 times your average daily budget (30.4 is the average number of days in a month: 365 ÷ 12).
So to turn a monthly budget into the daily figure Google asks for, divide by 30.4:
| Monthly budget | Average daily budget | Most you can pay in a day | Most you can pay in a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| $500 | $16.45 | $32.89 | $500 |
| $1,000 | $32.89 | $65.79 | $1,000 |
| $1,500 | $49.34 | $98.68 | $1,500 |
| $3,000 | $98.68 | $197.37 | $3,000 |
If you see a day where spend is well above your daily budget, that's usually this overdelivery, not a billing error.
How much does Google Ads cost per click?
LocaliQ's 2026 benchmarks put the average cost per click for search ads at $5.42 across industries, with an average click-through rate of 6.64% and an average conversion rate of 8.18%. The spread between industries is wide:
| Industry | Avg. cost per click | Avg. conversion rate | Avg. cost per lead |
|---|---|---|---|
| Attorneys & Legal Services | $9.87 | 5.55% | $131.63 |
| Home & Home Improvement | $8.33 | 8.05% | $90.92 |
| Dentists & Dental Services | $8.00 | 10.67% | $72.97 |
| Personal Services | $7.17 | 12.34% | $54.60 |
| Health & Fitness | $6.17 | 6.94% | $67.36 |
| Business Services | $5.87 | 4.85% | $93.69 |
| Automotive: Repair, Service & Parts | $4.35 | 15.51% | $29.96 |
| Furniture | $3.97 | 2.99% | $106.70 |
| Finance & Insurance | $3.39 | 2.64% | $74.44 |
| Real Estate | $3.22 | 3.70% | $102.51 |
| Restaurants & Food | $2.05 | 8.05% | $30.57 |
| Arts & Entertainment | $1.63 | 5.91% | $26.84 |
| All industries | $5.42 | 8.18% | $66.69 |

Look at Real Estate and Furniture: cheap clicks, expensive leads, because few clicks convert. Automotive repair is the opposite: a mid-priced click that converts more than 15% of the time. That's why cost per click on its own tells you little. What matters is what you pay for each lead or sale.
One caution when you do the maths yourself: LocaliQ averages each metric separately, so an industry's cost per click divided by its conversion rate won't exactly equal its published cost per lead. Use the averages to set expectations, then replace them with your own numbers as soon as you have them.
What does $1,500 a month on Google Ads get you?
Here's a $1,500 monthly budget at the 2026 all-industry averages:
| Step | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Daily budget | $1,500 ÷ 30.4 | $49.34 a day |
| Clicks | $1,500 ÷ $5.42 per click | about 277 |
| Impressions | 277 clicks ÷ 6.64% click-through rate | about 4,170 |
| Leads | 277 clicks × 8.18% conversion rate | about 23 |
| Cost per lead | $1,500 ÷ 22.6 leads | about $66 |
The same $1,500 in Home & Home Improvement ($8.33 per click, 8.05% conversion rate) buys about 180 clicks and 14 or 15 leads. In Restaurants & Food ($2.05 per click, 8.05%) it buys about 732 clicks and 59 leads.
Our Google Ads cost calculator runs these steps with your own budget, cost per click and conversion rate, and shows the daily budget to enter in Google Ads.
How much should a small business spend on Google Ads?
Start from the results you need rather than a round number. The formula is:
Monthly budget = leads you want each month × your cost per lead
At the 2026 average of $66.69 per lead, 20 leads a month needs about $1,334 a month, or $43.88 a day. For a dental practice at $72.97 per lead, the same 20 leads needs about $1,459. For a law firm at $131.63, about $2,633.
Then check the number is worth it. A lead is worth:
Value of a lead = revenue per customer × profit margin × share of leads that become customers
If a new customer brings $1,000 at a 50% margin and you close one lead in four, each lead is worth $1,000 × 50% × 25% = $125. Paying $66.69 for it leaves room for profit. Paying $131.63 doesn't. The cost per lead calculator works this out from your own close rate and margin. If Google Ads is one channel among several, how much a small business should spend on marketing shows how to size the whole budget first.
What else does running Google Ads cost?
The ad budget is the cost Google bills, but not the only one:
- Management. Your time, or an agency or freelancer. Some charge a flat monthly fee, others a percentage of spend.
- The landing page. Ads send people somewhere. A slow page or a weak form lowers your conversion rate, which raises the cost of every lead.
- Tracking. Without conversion tracking set up in Google Ads, you're judging campaigns on clicks alone.
The landing page matters more than most people expect. At $5.42 per click, a page that converts at 4% costs $135.50 per lead. The same clicks on a page that converts at 8% cost $67.75 per lead. Doubling the conversion rate halves the cost per lead without changing the ads at all.
